Last Friday (February 3) saw the release of Nines' brag-filled, matching-shirted collaboration with J Hus "High Roller". And now, just a week later, the North West London MC has dropped an entire debut LP into our laps as if it ain't even a thing.
Despite its low-on-fanfare release, One Foot Out is an album that pricks your ears through its content rather than because of any all-singing all-dancing promotion – which we suspect is just how Nines likes it. Released via XL at midnight, One Foot Out has Nines' laid-back but hard-working stamp all over it – it's relatively scant on features (with only J Hus, Tiggs Da Author, Akala and Berner of Taylor Gang appearing) giving him time to flex his mic skills and his already recognisable flow.
And if the album – a follow up to mixtape One Foot In – seems like it's been a long time coming, that's because it has (Nines has self-released four mixtapes since 2011), but now that it's finally here, it feels like a fitting debut for a rapper who's been working at it for years, and who'll surely be around for years to come.
