You there, Real Music Fan. You're into Live Music. You think Justin Bieber is "a load of pop rubbish." And you've got a record player, haven't you? You call it "my baby," because you don't have a girlfriend, and you're especially into rifling through boxes of records in charity shops, to see if you can unearth what you like to knowingly call "a gem" ever since that time you found an unopened copy of Definitely Maybe for three quid in a British Heart Foundation. You constantly tell people in the pub that this was "the best moment of your life," and you are only half joking.
So you, Real Music Fan are probably confused to hear that the volumes 1 through 35 of the NOW! That's What I Call Music compilation series (or as I like to refer to them, "my whole entire childhood") is now available to buy, on vinyl, as a set, from eBay, for the reasonable sum of £900. The set comes with nine spin-off compilations, so this is excellent value. "This isn't real music!" you cry. "This isn't even worth a fiver! I cannot believe that Boyzone have been committed to the sacred vinyl form!" You are extremely disappointed, and you, well – you have fired off an angry tweet.
Firstly, Real Music Fan, let me set you straight: Boyzone were better than all other music at the time. Yes, even the Arctic Monkeys! And secondly, I am forced to ask, if you, representative as you are of most people who buy vinyl, are not buying this fine collection of NOW! compilation vinyl, then who is? And I am left with only two options: either me (I am the only person I know who has a record player, only listens to pop music, and is willing to spend large amounts of money on a joke), or a particularly comprehensive wedding DJ.
Wedding DJs as a group do not need any more encouraging, so really there can only be one rightful owner. So if you would like these pieces of pop history to go to their proper home, to someone who will respect them and blast "Love Me For a Reason" to the point where her neighbours will want to kill her: I gratefully accept gifts and donations.
In the meantime, click here to read about that time we ranked NOW! compilations from worst to best, and listen to Boyzone below to get you in the mood:
