Later this month, Brian Eno will release The Ship on Warp Records, an appropriately vague titled record that's probably going to deal with anxiety and the human condition in some extraordinary way we didn't even know yet existed, because that's kind of just what Brian Eno does. Today, Eno has released the record's opener and title track, a 21-minute dreamscape that sounds a bit like a dystopian future trapped in a Stanley Kubrick film from the 1980s.
In a press release, Eno has this to say: "The piece started as an Ambient work intended for a multi channel sound installation in Stockholm, but during the making of it I discovered that I could now sing a low C - which happens to be the root note of the piece. Getting older does have a few fringe benefits after all. From that point the work turned into an unusual kind of song...a type I've never made before where the vocal floats free, untethered to a rhythmic grid of any kind.”
In other words, this shit is weird and something we've never heard before from Eno. And if one thing is for certain, The Ship is going to be an ambient trip towards the center of the human brain that only Brian Eno could lead.
