Mat Riviere sculpts the kind of soundscapes your brain wanders into after you've been given a co-codamol prescription. Active for a good few years now, self-releasing carefully crafted albums with names like "Not Even Doom Music" and "Follow Your Heart" with artwork featuring Dean off of Gilmore Girls, Mat has woven together a tapestry of influeces unique to himself - one where Xiu Xiu's noisepop, Blink-182's playfulness and Trust Fund's vulnerability sit comfortably next to each other. Not unlike what Ryan Hemsworth has done recently.
We're premiering the video for "Snuck" from his forthcoming Terrible Trouble EP, which you can watch below. The track sounds a bit like a lo-fi How To Dress Well cross-pollinated with Casiotone For The Painfully Alone and features additional vocals by Joel Midden of Chicago drone-pop outfit Bastardgeist. In the video, Mat sings to some girls over Skype and makes them cry, which is probably what's going to happen to you too once you press play below.
Terrible Trouble is available digitally / for pre-order on February 14 and will be released on cassette in March through Super Smash Hit Records. In the meantime, you can catch Mat Riviere at Total Refreshment Centre on January 23 for BAMBOO's album launch show.
