The keen eared will have heard a lot of chatter about Sunflower Bean already this year, and not just because the three members have some of the most clearly defined cheek-bones going in music today. As we said on Noisey after watching them play live in New York, "the band are tighter than Kim Kardashian's pregnancy wardrobe: their iron-clad grooves, lock in like lego pieces, seamlessly slowing and speeding up to an ear-achingly awesome squall". We're not alone, either: the band have been described by NME as a "mesmerising concoction that sucks in ‘Meddle’-era Pink Floyd, stabs of ’80s alt-pop like The Cure, Television’s brain-melting guitar intricacy and The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s cool"; i-D heralded them as "one of the most exciting things happening in music right now"; BEAT called them "a truly awesome band". So we guess what this all means is: Sunflower Bean are a One to Watch. And at an age that sits around 19, 20 years old for each band member, they're also another band that'll make you feel as though you're inching closer to death or a looming existential crisis.
The group's debut album Human Ceremony isn't out for another week, but the folks over at Apple Music are streaming it in full right now. If you've signed up for Apple Music already, take a listen below. If you haven't, sign up or be doomed to listen to short previews of each track and not much more.
