Right. Think of the thing you want to see least in the world. Then look at this picture of Bono and US Vice President Mike Pence, taken over the weekend, and reassess.
If a picture paints a thousand words, this photograph (and indeed, the thought of Mike Pence and Bono in a room together) poses one million questions. My first query is simply this: what in good fuck is going on here? My second: Why are they standing so weird? Moreover, why are they frowning at each other as though they are either a) different life forms meeting for the first time trying to figure out a common language via which to communicate, or b) a pair of gorillas? This photo makes me feel bad, honestly.
The reason for it is this: Bono was in Germany to give a speech about Third World extremism (because what better person to discuss this complex and difficult topic than Bono?), and Pence also happened to be there. That's pretty much it. Associated Press reports that Glamour Man of the Year Bono, who helms the RED project which seeks to combat HIV and AIDS in developing countries, praised Pence for voting in favour of measures to provide AIDS medication to African countries twice – THAT'S A WHOLE TWO (2) TIMES YOU GUYS, DESPITE THE HIV/AIDS CRISIS IN HIS HOME STATE FOR WHICH MANY HOLD HIM RESPONSIBLE BUT NBD :-) – and that reporters were "ushered away" soon after that.
Idk, I guess you can watch some footage below of the two of them together but really I never want to think about this ever again because there is something deeply, deeply unsettling about it.
