Girls Dreams

An underrated meme is those mashups where someone intentionally misattributes a quote by a fictional character to a character that strongly resembles them in some way. Yoda's "do or do not, there is no try," but credited to Dumbledore, for example. You can read it as a commentary on how the internet mixes and matches cultural touchstones, or it's just jokes. Either way, that meme became life when Karlie Kloss made a flub, confusing Beyoncé and TLC.

Writing for the Love Magazine's "Mega Fan Profile" series, Kloss says she's been a fan of Beyonce and Destiny's Child since 2003 and then writes "She is the Soundtrack to my LIFE! … C'mon, Waterfalls!?" Her enthusiasm is what sells the screw-up, and she acknowledged it afterwards on Twitter. As far as misidentification goes, it's not as embarrassing as it could have been. Limewire has done worse. It was years before anyone told me that "Half the Man I Used to Be" wasn't by Nirvana.
