Girls Dreams

Much ballyhoo has been made about the possible death of rock (guilty) but everything seems to be going fine for the believers in the genre, because if anything this music has gained more power as the world changes. Courtesy of NPR's First Listen, we have two reasons to rock this week.

Japandroids have, at long last, dropped Near to the Wild Heart of Life and YOOOOOOOOO. It somehow sounds even more titanic than their previous, already world-swallowing albums, imagining an alternate reality where the Vancouver duo became stadium headliners in the mould of their fellow Canuck Bryan Adams. Uncool? Doesn't matter. You can listen to the album here.

On the other end of the scale is the new release from D.C. band Priests. Nothing Feels Natural is probably the most apt album title for this year, and the band's skewed take on punk perfectly encapsulates the mood of the times. Where else will you hear a sax solo on a rock album? You can listen to Nothing Feels Natural here.
