Alista Marq is a rare artist. He's British, but he sounds nothing like his UK rap or grime counterparts. His palette takes in luminaries like Kid Cudi and Kevin Abstract, but doesn't fall into the trap of sounding too American or like something it's not. We premiered his first video for "Forest" back in 2015 and today we're posting up the exclusive for his latest track "Kid Again", which comes as smooth as a cold glass of orange juice on a hangover.
Think about your favourite teen film. Picture a Tumblr page filled with photos of a hazy summer camp. Recall those moments on holiday when everything seems still, life all falls into place. Then press play on the track.
"I wanted the song to feel like a coming of age movie soundtrack," Marq told Noisey over email. "My only goal moving forward is putting out music that can emotionally shift people's moods. There seems to be a gap when the narrative becomes the feeling of nostalgia, heartbreak, regret or vulnerability and I hope someone, somewhere in the world (wide web) really connects with the song the same way I do."
