Girls Dreams

World's Greatest Rock Band Sleater-Kinney have been covering Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son" for at least a dozen years. Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker carry the same furious protest in their voice that John Fogerty's Southern howl did at CCR's peak. It's a Vietnam-era song that snaps the present into focus when hammered out with the right abandon.

Sleater-Kinney co-headlined a benefit show for Planned Parenthood in Washington DC last night, sharing the top of the bill with The National. To close out their act, they played "Fortunate Son" with The National's Matt Berninger, Dirty Projectors' Dave Longstreth, and Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood.
