Day 79: "They Still Like Me" – The Dedication 2 , 2006

Today, Noisey released our list of the best albums of the year. The 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne project COLLEGROVE was not on it, although I do think that album is widely overlooked. But when it comes to ranking stuff, Lil Wayne is never far from the conversation, as the best rapper alive. He has an interlude on Dedication 2 where he addresses being the best rapper alive, but just before it he does something perhaps more illustrative, by freestyling over the beat for Dem Franchise Boyz's "Oh, I Think They Like Me." Of course we like Lil Wayne! How could you not when he raps such gems as "Hop in my shit and say goodbye / 'cause the ceilings leaving" or when he makes "I'm aimin' and squeezin' / bangin' and leavin' / stains on the cement" and makes cement rhyme with the rest of that bar?

Lil Wayne, perennial candidate for best rapper alive, who couldn't make it onto a best albums list this year because he couldn't release an album but who nonetheless had a pretty good year of rapping and appeared on two of our top three albums, is someone you always have to give some credit. I'll let him play us out, though: "And my right wrist / is looking like a cracked open egg / that's white and yellow diamonds / adjust your lighting / I got 'em so mad but / Oh I think they like me." Couldn't have put it better myself. And just remember: Even if your favourite music isn't on the list, we still like it :)
