Girls Dreams

America: SPLASHH are coming for you. They may have cut their teeth in east London, but the band—consisting of a bunch of Aussies and a dude from Auckland—have now moved to the Lower East Side to cause a trouble with their second album Waiting a Lifetime, coming out in April via Cinematic Records. It's the follow up to the easy, breezy, shoegaze pop of their 2013 debut Comfort.

With a bass drum thump like an agitated heart after too many amphetamines, musically "Rings" is scuzzy indie-pop that zips into one ear and stays lodged in your brain. Meanwhile this black and white video, premiering below, will make you feel like you're trapped in a zoetrope.

"The 'Rings' video is a collaboration with long time friend and director Errol Rainey who we have worked with since starting the band," explain the band. "The idea was initially inspired by the opening scene from one of our favourite films Candy. We always like incorporating mixed mediums in our videos, the use of different cameras and speeds. This time around one simple performance & concept that we felt best represented the track."

Initially we thought they might mean the 60s film Candy, whose imdb synopsis runs: "Candy, an innocent high-schooler, encounters numerous colourful characters and humorous sexual situations while attempting to find meaning in life." Which sounds pretty sweet. But on further investigation, the videos dizzying aspects are lifted from the 2006 film with Abbie Cornish and Heath Ledger—about a poet falling in love with a heroin-addicted art school kid. Watch below.
