Girls Dreams

Canada’s capital Ottawa is home of the federal government and the internationally swooned over Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. Ottawa is also home to Deen Squad, a Muslim hip-hop duo made up of Karter Zaher and Jae Deen.

They have made their name changing the lyrics to songs like Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen” and The Weeknd’s “The Hills” to reflect their religious views. That "Trap Queen" cover, called “Muslim Queen,” has a pretty impressive 1.5 million views so far. Their lyrics promote their Islamic faith while trying to stay in line with today's hip-hop and pop scenes.

We caught up with them just a few days before the holy month of Ramadan and had them show Noisey’s Giselle Mapp Ottawa through their eyes with stops at their favourite restaurant, a local boutique and Karter’s family home.
