Earlier this week, young grime MC Myron Yarde (known as MDot) was killed in Lewisham, South London. Novelist, who is from the same area, and was friends with the musician, tweeted his thoughts about what had happened: “Just last week I called telling MDOT I'm gonna bring him studio and life’s getting better. My heart man, he was just tryna live. RIP MDOT.”
And then, last night, Novelist dropped a surprise instrumental “Rest in Peace [Ruff Sound Movement]” alongside the caption: “This goes out to all my dead bros. Special shout out to my young donny MDOT who just passed. Ruff Sound Movement Nationwide.” The track is a less high-energy release than his previous creations, with a brilliantly minimal, lo-fi beat and an off-kilter melody.
