Fake Laugh has developed from a master of bedroom lo-fi to a scholar of sophisticated indie-pop in hardly any time at all. Sounding a little like The Shins with more of a garage edge, Fake Laugh's "dreamy sorcery" has shared stages with everyone from Girlpool to Ride – and it's not hard to see why. With vocals softer than a puppy made of velvet and melodies that lull and invigorate at the same time, Fake Laugh is, in essence, that point in your day when you can finally let your muscles go, crash onto the sofa, and let things fall into place.
We're premiering the video for "Mind Tricks" below, which sees main man Kamran Khan capering around New York City with some of his pals in Oscar, taking in the sights, the smells, and the many, many weird costumed people in Times Square.
Of the track, Kam says:
“It's kind of about the sometimes up and downy nature of existence, going from feeling like you're king of the world to the worst person of all time. I suppose it's also about thinking things that seem crazy, but very real at the same time. The song tries to accept that sort of grey area problem in a way.”
Watch and listen below.
"Mind Tricks" is available as a AA single via Fierce Panda in the UK and Canvasback in the US, which you can cop here. Catch Fake Laugh live at Brighton's Green Door Store on February 22 and Servant Jazz Quarters in London on February 23.
