Back in 2010, Hans – the guy behind Bare Mattress – freaked out, left his band Defense Family in the middle of a tour, and took a plane to Seattle. From there he ventured East to New York, where he would spend the next four years working menial jobs, living on couches, and spending many a cathartic night recording a podcast.
Then he started Bare Mattress, forming the bedroom recordings which would make up Don't Complain / Don't Explain. Today we're premiering his debut single "Free Yard" from that tape, which has the unique quality of sounding some parts disco, and some parts hella emo. Listen to it as you shuffle around your room in an existential crisis, lighting candles and spending too long inspecting the crevices of your face in the mirror.
It will be released on cassette with digital download by Tye Die Tapes of Sheffield, UK worldwide on Friday, February 26th, and you can listen below.
