Since we last checked in with Benjamin Grant (feature previously here and here) his project Daily Overview has surged in popularity, especially on Instagram where he has amassed over 165,000 followers.

In collaboration with Digital Globe, Daily Overview shows us the world as seen from above. Grant explains:

 

The mesmerizing flatness seen from this vantage point, the surprising comfort of systematic organization on a massive scale, or the vibrant colors that we capture will hopefully turn your head. However, once we have that attention, we hope you will go beyond the aesthetics, contemplate just exactly what it is that you’re seeing, and consider what that means for our planet.

Today we are doing a feed takeover for @theworldpost with a selection of Overviews from around the globe, including this one of Bourtange. This Dutch "star fort" was built in 1593 during the Eighty Years’ War when William I of Orange wanted to control the only road between Germany and the city of Groningen. Star forts were constructed in the manner you see here so that an attack on any of its five walls could be aggressively counteracted from the two adjacent star points.
