We'll be the first to say how disappointed we are with humanity's treatment of Canadian pop-star, Carly Rae Jepsen. She gave us the infectiously hook-y banger “I Really Like You” (with Tom goddamn-Oscar-winning Hanks in the video), the sultry Dev Hynes/Ariel Rechtshaid super collaboration “All That,” and still no one shows her the love she so greatly deserves on the Billboard charts. But Carly is a fighter, Carly is passionate, and for her new track Carly has “E•MO•TION.” Off her upcoming sophomore album of the same name due out on June 23, the track is another bubblegum love affair sprinkled with stained chords, a hint of what sounds like Hynes’ floaty guitar strings and Jepsen’s singing wistfully about “fantasies dreaming about me” and we feel it. It makes us feel all sorts of emotions: happy, dance-y, hangry—sometimes more than one at the same time. Hangry is an emotion, right?
